Digital Records Transformation Initiative

The Digital Records Transformation Initiative (the Initiative) is an Australian Public Service wide initiative focused on supporting the development of modernised digital records and information capability across Australian Government non-corporate Commonwealth entities. The Government has agreed to modernise the common function of recordkeeping by taking advantage of new technologies, particularly those that automate the capture and classification of records.

In this context, Finance intends to establish a whole-of-government arrangement for entities to source technology that supports modernised records management capabilities.
Finance is currently using a co-design approach with industry, Commonwealth entities and State Government to determine the best way of achieving this. The first sprint of the Discovery Phase has just been completed.

An eye on the future 2019 Hot Topics for IT Internal Audit in Financial Services - An internal audit viewpoint Deloitte.

Whilst this paper by Deloitte talks about internal audit in Financial Services in the UK the findings could be of value to government agencies at Local, State and Federal levels, in fact to any business that has an internal auditor/governance role.

Overview of Paper An eye on the further2019 Hot Topics for IT Internal Audit in Financial Services - An internal audit viewpoint Deloitte

This paper by Deloitte openly discussed their areas of focus and the organisational challenges in relation to their firms' technology control environment.  Deloitte interviewed over 20 key organisations across the financial services sector in the UK to obtain perspectives on the ‘hot topics’ or areas of focus in IT internal audit plans for 2019.

Whilst "cyber security" claimed, once again, the top spot of our list, it is interesting to see a shift of focus to cyber 'recoverability', incident response and resilience, as well as security considerations over new digital assets. In fact, in this year’s survey, functions seem to have "an eye to the future", quoting for the first time topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, DevOps and specifically highlighting the audit challenges they will need to overcome; whilst we still refer to them as 'emerging risks', it is not difficult to foresee a time in the near future where these become core risks impacting business as usual activities.

This paper also includes a commentary on the challenges that IT Internal Audit functions are facing (section 1) based on the results of our survey, our viewpoint on the effective IT internal audit of the future (section 2) and our perspective on its role in the continuous evolution of Internal Audit functions.
