IIM National Newsletter December 2006

IIM Newsletter
December 2006

Robine Polach
National President

Dear Member,

With 2006 drawing to a close very rapidly, the Board and various IIM State Committees are working to put together a range of events I trust will be of interest to you and, one that will add value to your membership.

In 2006, the ACT Branch ran a very successful seminar/conference in August under the theme "Managing Information Today and Tomorrow".The ACT Branch will again be hosting an annual conference in 2007 around August/September. The 2007 conference will be hosted as a national event. More details on this event will be provided early in the New Year.

In 2007, IIM will again be collaborating with other associations in bringing to you Information Awareness Month (IAM) in May 2007. The generic theme for IAM is "Connecting Information and People". More information on this later.

Throughout 2007 we will continue to provide you, our Members, with updates on the issues surrounding Australia's Access Card and other topical issues as they arise. If you wish to make a contribution to this Newsletter of the articles/publications within our website, please email them to iim@iim.org.au.

2006 has been an active year for most IIM branches. I would like to thank all Board, Committee members and National Executive for their efforts throughout the year as, without their support, we could not have offered these events to you, our members.

Finally, as this is the final newsletter for 2006 I would like to close by wishing all IIM Members a safe and happy festive season. I look forward to your continued support throughout 2007.

Over recent years she has been responsible for the initiation and implementation of one of the first implementations in Australia of an enterprise-wide Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS).

AGM & PANEL DISCUSSION 12 October 2006
"Where Do We Go From Here?"
Individual managers are absolutely reliant on the availability of authoritative, reliable, current, and contextually appropriate information. Technology assists in achieving these objectives.

An excellent descriptor of this scope of managing intellectual content is represented in the AGIMO Information Interoperability Framework. ‘Information Interoperability’ is defined by AGIMO as being ‘the ability to transfer and use information in a uniform and effective manner across multiple organisations and information technology systems’ (AGIMO April 2006, p.3). The Framework includes aspects such as managing information as an asset and as a strategic resource, including generating information to support decision-making.

It is in these areas in particular, that IIM can contribute to the management of the intellectual worth of information, not limiting the ‘management’ to the technology of information management systems.
