Presenter: Debbie Cutts, Manager Information Services, Fremantle Ports
Fremantle Ports’ Journey to Excellence
Influencing Change and Implementing Best Practice Information Management
In 2007 Fremantle Ports became the first organisation in Western Australian to receive a Gold Award in the 18-year history of the prestigious Australian Business Excellence Awards. Debbie Cutts had a key role in the Awards submission in the area of Data, Information and Knowledge.
This presentation will take you on Fremantle Ports’ journey to best practice information management, including discussion of some of the obstacles the Port has encountered along the way and what strategies were used to influence change, in particular achieving Executive and Management support and user “buy-in”. These obstacles are not unique to the Port but are relevant across all public and private sector organisations. Given the research that 98% of documents are stored in electronic form, Fremantle Ports’ future challenge is to control and manage electronic documents stored in shared network drives.
This presentation will conclude with audience participation and discussion on the contentious topic “Should shared network drives be a thing of the past so that people are forced to store documents in Electronic Document and Records Management Systems”? How is your organisation managing this issue and what are the pros and cons of taking such a bold step?

The first presentation of the breakfast seminar will explore the new features available in SharePoint 2010, what they mean for your business, and to leverage them. The second presentation will focus on how some Unique World customers are approaching their SharePoint 2010 upgrades and implementations.
